Here are my two cents,

1. Not Director's (Srijit Mukherjee) best attempt; I think he does well in crime suspense genre than period genre. His direction shows parts brilliance as a very short simple story line stretches over 2 hours which could have well been within 1.5 hr. There are unnecessary attempt to develop characters of some who are not important for the main story-line. Nonetheless , the primary storyline is a touching one during the country's partition with mixture of fear, anguish, corruption, helplessness, courage and feminism.

2. Camera work great in some long and short shots, boring when continuously showed one half of faces of the two officers (Ilias and Prophullo) over different situations.

3. Acting mostly ordinary, Rituparna(Begam Jaan) tried hard to convince her character especially when she showed her anger on others, sometimes touching the border of melodrama. Rest are average with exception of Saswata(Prophullo), Kaushik(Ilias) and Jishu (Kabir). Why the actors casted for Lord Mountbatten so lackluster, and a British character Radcliff is played by an Indian face acted by an Indian!!!

South Indian remakes which were once the staple diet for Tollywood, have gradually lost their appeal. But if presented in the right way, then even now a remake can draw the audiences; be it Kolkata or beyond, multiplex or single-screen. That's what STJ has proved this Puja!

Fed up with the same old brainless action-dramas, the viewers were thirsting for something new. And novelty was something which they got in abundance from this film. First of all the star-cast. Getting to see Dev and Sohom together was definitely a big attraction which ensured an excellent opening for the film. And that the audiences don't return disappointed was ensured by the intensely emotional story-line. Indeed, it's emotional quotient is the biggest asset for the movie as it connects with the audiences and ensures that it lingers on in our mind; unlike other contemporary 'hits' which hardly create any impression.

The other big factor which helped the film connect all over Bengal was its distinct 'Bangaliana'. Kudos to director Birsa Dasgupta for draining out all the South Indian flavour from the script and instead masterfully weave in a wonderful montage of Bengal into various fragments of the film. For instance, the Sohom-Srabonti track is beautifully shot in the picturesque locales of Darjeeling while the Dev-Mimi part is placed in vintage North Kolkata along with Rajarhat. And the actual scene of all the narrative is a modern-luxurious housing colony in the posh area of Kasba, South Kolkata! It's also helped significantly that the film has been shot in real locations unlike most directors who prefer the artificial settings of the Ramoji Film City. It won't be an overstatement to say that after Raj Chakraborty Tollywood has finally found a mainstream director with genuine film- making skills.

Dev is initially unconvincing as the drunkard husband, but gradually gets into his groove. In fact he's at his 'ceeti-taali' best in his track with Mimi. Srabonti is good while Mimi is effervescent. Sohom gets limited screen-time but makes a bigger impression than his lead roles in 'Jamai 420' and 'Katmundu'. In fact, he even overshadows Dev in the film's only scene featuring the two stars together. Arindam Sil is a welcome change with his graceful portrayal while Supriyo Dutta reiterates his caliber as a powerhouse performer.

Most of the songs are refreshing barring 'Emotional Saiyyan' which has been used as just a promotional gimmick for all Dev-fans but cleverly excluded from the film keeping in mind the severe distaste of the multiplex audiences for such 'dream' sequences which frequently pop up to obstruct the flow of the narrative.

After 'Golpo Holeo Sotti' (2014) Birsa has once again succeeded in bridging the urban-rural divide which is the only way Bengali cinema can survive in the age of shrinking theatrical market. Under such a scenario STJ certainly lends out hope for a brighter future which ultimately, is the biggest Puja gift for all lovers of Bengali cinema...

Speed is the perfect word that describes Chennai Express. It is fun and entertaining. The film has no time for dull moments, for it does not stop anywhere. I won't tell its summary or story. However, its one scene related to DDLJ's train sequence can't simply leave my mind. It's funny as hell with the biggest twist that no one ever thought of before. There you go, I said it. The movie actually has more twists and turns that consist of full on comedy. Even the scary villains showed it perfectly well.

Now here are the things that wowed me about the movie. Srk: His comic timing was marvelous. But even more than that I was impressed by the amount of hard work he did for the action scenes. Deepika: No one could do the character of Meena better than her. She truly now is a professional actress who does not need to hide her weakness with short clothes and makeup. The goondas: They did have fewer lines to say, but their expressions were superb. Without them, this movie would have been dull. Editing: It's of highest quality and very visible with all the vfx work. It proved that Bollywood is now progressing aggressively. Story: I did not want it to end. I am glad that Rohet Shetty gave time for the love to blossom between Srk and Deepika.

I will go to watch Chennai Express again and even buy the disc once it's available. Private movie collection would be incomplete without it.

Before reading any further please note that unlike Taran Adarsh & many others, I didn't get paid by SRK. If you are a SRK fanatic, read no further.

Before intermission, Kareena utters the best dialogue in the entire movie, 'Kya RA.One, Kya G.One! Mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha!!'. Well she spoke for everyone in the cinema hall! After all the crazy marketing & hype by SRK, the movie turned out to be DUD! The movie has a weak story, screenplay and was supported by even a weaker performance by most of the cast. 'Twas like watching a daily serial on TV. One can guess what will happen at the end which is like 10,000 episodes from now but still one would watch it everyday just for the heck of it! Well that is how I felt watching Ra.One.

Visual EFX: Amazing!! Though you see heavy influences from Video games like Mortal Kombat and movies like Matrix and Terminator, I still see it as the biggest strength of the movie. 3D was alright. Looks like it was hurriedly done.

Stunts: RA.One and G.one are like Iron Man, Spider Man and Robots from Real Steal movie all combined into one. Some stunts were good but most weren't. Almost every single action sequence has been lifted from Mortal Kombat. But I was disappointed with the climax fight. A BIG LET DOWN!

South India Killed: "Ayyo" is all you get to hear from SRK during the first half of the movie. SRK struggles with his Tamil big time and he is a tamilian in the movie?!?! Whoa! Mixing curd with noodles and taking long coffee breaks is his depiction of a South Indian guy? Great! Chammak Challo - great song but the situation of the song is so wrong. I never knew South Indian women dress the way Kareena & the background dancers have dressed in the song! Well may be in a South Indian adult movie YES :P

RajiniKanth - Plays a minuscule role and I don't now why he decided to do it. Horrible wig and make up. I couldn't believe if it was Rajinikant for real. Again the storyline around him is SO WEAK. I seriously don't understand how this movie is a tribute to him. Another marketing gimmick by SRK I guess.

Overall: RA.One didn't quite work for me... it wasn't boring but at the same time, there was nothing interesting to keep me glued to my seat either, no nail-biting moments, power packed action sequences.. instead we got a heavy dose of Karan Johar's sentiments, emotions, KKHH, Karwa Chauth etc! I am sure the movie will be fun to watch for kids and SRK would make his money at the box office but I don't wanna torture Any.One by recommending them to watch RA.One

Any reason why those critics would have praise for 'Ek Tha Tiger' is because they were promised a share of its opening success. But just as its box-office smashing opening, it begins on an impressive high in a sequence that is supposedly shot in Iraq with some stunning cinematography. The breathtaking location is supported by a well choreographed action sequence atop roofs of the low structures and bazaar streets. However, once we are introduced to this R.A.W. Agent named 'Tiger', it all starts going downhill from there. Dublin, Havana, Istanbul, London or New Delhi no longer resemble those breathtaking visuals we had seen in Iraq. It's as though the cinematographer and director had changed for the rest of the movie. The action starts looking amateurish and the R.A.W. Agent loses his credibility of being an agent at all. With its non-existent story-telling, weak direction and Salman's stiff, expression-less portrayal, one loses respect for 'Ek Tha Tiger' and rather appreciates several aspects of its predecessor of R.A.W. Reference, 'Agent Vinod'.After he is done showing off his macho physique in the Delhi neighbourhood upon his return from Iraq, Tiger is keen on jumping to his next assignment that takes him to Dublin, on the trail of a professor (Roshan Seth) who is reluctant to meet anyone but his own dog. Tiger meets Zoya (Katrina Kaif), who introduces him to the professor, he falls for her, digresses from his mission completely, sings a song or two and is then shocked to find out Zoya's true identity who is actually.... wait for it..... an I.S.I. Agent!! Kabir Khan plays 'New York's surprise story once again while Tiger gets all gloomy back in New Delhi. His next mission takes him to Istanbul where he decides to elope with Zoya, right under the noses of R.A.W. And I.S.I's officials. Then, by switching identities and putting up incredulous disguises that makes Salman look like Suryavanshi all over again, they escape to Cuba where they stupidly pose in action in front of the camera for the world to see. Once again, they're on the run in undisclosed locations and false identities. R.A.W.'s chief, (Girish Karnad) thus concludes the theme of the movie – Ek Tha Tiger. If this was lame to read through, you have no idea how it is to sit through the film when the action simply becomes laughable with conspicuous body doubles doing all the work for our senior citizen Tiger. These sequences also involve him jumping from an airborne motorcycle into the open door of an already flying airplane in a choppy CGI shot. Rajnikant's jaw must've dropped as well.Kabir Khan never had it right after the opening sequence. If this is the story that Aditya Chopra comes up with, then it's time he hands over all creativity back to his father. The plot has no complexity whatsoever and Tiger's weakness as a dedicated R.A.W. Agent simply dampens the already struggling plot. Compare all this to Shriram Raghavan's slick 'Agent Vinod' - The plot was convoluted for being a spy thriller, the romance never became too serious and it never digressed the film's focus which revolved around the agent's mission. The action was more credible and so was Saif's portrayal as a secret agent. 'Ek Tha Tiger' makes 'Agent Vinod' look like it was made under the MGM banner with Martin Campbell directing it.

Katrina Kaif does well in her role as an I.S.I. Agent. Although, she looks too beautiful to be taken seriously as one. In the Mashallah song, Katrina looks like a gift from the Gods to mankind. Salman Khan looks much older than ShahRukh Khan did in Ra.One and his physique is perhaps so bulky that his movements are even more restricted. For a simple jump from the first storey, he needs a body double. His movement in action and dance is just so stiff that it robs the essence of the character he is playing. To the extent that agent Tiger is too Salman- ish rather than the other way round. Yet, he has done his best in portraying a character that wasn't even well written to begin with. Ranvir Shorey is the most fun to watch though. His performance is brilliant as Tiger's support and he brings the humor as well as the seriousness in the film. Girish Karnad seems a bit extreme as the chief of R.A.W. while he devours Tiger's special Daal and sulks about his lost love. But we'll take that since we haven't seen him in a while.

Sohail Sen's music will be remembered for the arabic tune of Masha-allah and for Mohit Chauhan's melodious singing in Saiyaara to some fine tunes.

Director Kabir Khan has reportedly used Salman's advice while filming 'Ek Tha Tiger' and certainly that did not help his cause. While he had the potential to create something superlative with such a cast and the promise of the opening sequence, he washed it all down with the ridiculous action sequences that followed, the frivolous plot-line and poorly written characters. It seems like anything goes for success these days and 'Ek Tha Tiger' is a shining example that audiences can decide the fate of any film. With its ginormous collections already, there is no need to contribute more to its makers' wallets. You can wait a while and watch it on Zee or Doordarshan....

When I first grabbed the cover box for AKIRA off the shelves of my local video store, I had never heard the word "manga," (Japanese comic book) nor "anime" (Japanimation) for that matter. Back then I would have given that movie a 9 (excellent), since it was like nothing I had ever seen before, was true graphic violence, but was still a bit too long and too hard to understand. Ten years later, having watched a slew of other anime productions, I would have given this movie an 8 (very good) from memory had I not seen it again yesterday. After seeing AKIRA for the first time in the original Japanese language, I have come to fully appreciate its cultural and artistic merit.

Ten years ago, I watched the English dubbed AKIRA and understood absolutely no Japanese. Ignorance of the language made for funny jokes with my brother ("Just as my bullet was reaching the red line! You think you're so tough") but added nothing to the movie. Ten years later I understand both the language and the country, thanks in part to AKIRA, and I have finally realized that Katsuhiro Otomo had created a classic. While critics may know the director Kurosawa, it may take another 10 years for the name Otomo to make its way to the forefront of American cinematic consciousness.

From here on out, I have nothing but praise for this historical milestone. No other hand-drawn movie I have ever seen is done as meticulously. The pillar lined coliseum comes to mind. It's apparent on first viewing that an immense amount of effort was put into the hand-drawn animation. It seems as if every detail within the frame is in motion. This stands out in the ANIME industry, where so many directors don't bother with effort and instead choose to have a still frame frozen over five seconds. In my mind AKIRA's animation is peerless on an international scale.

Second, the Neo Tokyo depicted in AKIRA is definitely the one that should exist today. Nightlife is dark and violent. Fundamentalist Buddhist sects roam the streets chanting dogma and searching for answers. And most importantly, the medicated punk teenagers speak a crooked, thuggish Japanese slang that I haven't heard in any movie of recent memory. 1988 was Japan's heyday, what with the bubble economy and all, but since then the artistic vision of Otomo's AKIRA seems to have gotten stuck in an economic recession. I feel as if modern Tokyo and its Anime has diverged quite a bit from the Neo-Tokyo depicted in AKIRA.

My final comment is DO NOT rent the English dubbed version, as I did long ago. If by chance you've developed a familiarity with Japan's language and culture, AKIRA makes so much more sense, as it was animated for the Japanese language. The poor English dub job does nothing but distract BIG TIME. As Japan's economically exuberant and excessive 80's heyday fades further into the past, AKIRA will prove to be a relic of a cult imagination that may be fading as well. To watch it in English would be sacrilegious.

In homage to this classic, I've titled my homepage AKIRA-TETSUO, which is named after that demonic anger and guilt you feel when you fail -- the emotion that you can harness to wreak atomic havoc upon this green planet earth. No happy ending with this cataclysmic movie.

Srijit Mukherjee's 5th directorial venture fails to meet the expectation. Only positive side of the movie is performance by Prosenjeet. Indraneel Sengupta does well as Hani Alkadi. The movie fails to create the suspense and thrill expected from a Kakababu story. The director fails to understand that too much melodrama and intellectual gibberish in a thriller doesn't work always. It was unnecessarily stretched by at least 30 min. The characters of Neel , Swastika and Riddhi as Santu's love interest were complete misfit. Was JNU campus tour necessary ? Rajesh Sharma does a decent job. Too much editing of the original story takes away a lot of fun. Hope the directors will keep these in mind. The screenplay and locations are well done. Watch Kahani - how to show a thriller in a simple way without being preachy.

OK, let me make one thing clear first. Chorabali isn't any masterpiece. Yet, people are praising it because of one reason. The director, Redoan Roni made a fully mainstream commercial cinema at a time when the industry seems to be dying. When his own peers (i.e. Mustafa Kamal Raaz etc) and even his mentor (Sarwar Farooki) are making extended TV dramas (or are they Telefilms?) and releasing them in 1 or 2 cinema halls and premiering them on TV on the first day itself. They need to stop kidding themselves and the audience. Those long dramas are not feature films and are clearly made for the TV screen. In such circumstances, Roni broke the barrier and made a true mainstream Bangla cinema. It's not an art film which caters to only the high class people. It has action, romance, drama and even an item song (although poorly executed).

So, the story revolves around a killer who serves a corrupt politician. The story is highly relevant to Bangladeshi society. However, there are some major plot holes here and there. The director lefts some important questions unanswered. Thus, the story ultimately falls short. However, the director's sincerity makes up for it. You will never guess that it is Roni's first film. He shows complete control of his content. The scenes are executed professionally, specially the camera angles are highly effective. The cinematography is world class. The director of photography was in terrific form and no Bangladeshi cinema had this good visuals before this. The background score is good. however the music was wasted because only short versions were played in the background. And the only song which was fully picturised was the item song which was not visually pleasant.

Indraneel was good as the main protagonist. He is an established actor and that shows in the confidence with which he carried out his role. His toned physique and melancholy personality added to the role. Joya Ahsan wasn't given a meaty role. So she is relegated to just emanating beauty on the screen and she does that with panache. But, the show stealer was Shahidujjaman Selim. He was a complete package. He was perfect as the heinous villain. Every scene was done with conviction and a touch of humanity. Hats off to this man as he is the one who makes you forget about the weak plot and just enjoy the dialogues instead.

Overall, it is an OK film. Not more, not less. As Roni's first film we can certainly be generous and forgive him for the plot. But next time we wish Roni doesn't write the story himself and instead finds a good scriptwriter. Also, having all the actors from Bangladesh would also help strike a chord with the Bangladeshi audience. I wanted to give it a 6 but I gave one point extra considering it was Roni's first film and because of Shadiujjaman Selim's performance. It is a highly watchable film and every Bengali should watch it at least once and encourage young directors like Roni to make better cinema. 

This film is light-years ahead of the other mainstream movies being made in Bangladesh, but still has a long way to go before it becomes world class. But this just might be the kick the industry needed to go bring back the golden age of cinema back from the grave!

Storyline

Tanisha (Played by Mahiya Mahi) is a incognito serial killer in Thailand, She is known as the "Killer Queen", While She Tries to Take Revenge on An Underworld Don Ainal (Misha Shoudagor); He hires a Daredevil Boxer Dragon (Arefin Shuvo) to kill her, While in mission Dragon fall in love with Tanisha without knowing It's Her he was sent to kill; but later finds out. What Will He Do?

Really enjoyable movie- especially for the very first time in Bengali movie any heroine (This time Mahiya Mahi as Tanisha who has become an incognito, trained killer to take revenge on her parents's murder in childhood ,) is seen to perform in such tremendous and mind-blowing action sequences. All the audience in movie theater seemed to enjoy her lovely acting, spontaneous action, peculiar & exceptional expression and awesome dance. Then although this movie is heroine based, Arifin Shuvoo ( as Dragon/Shishir who is on mission to protect underworld dons and kill their deadly enemies) did fantastic and marvelous job as an action hero who is sometimes comic ( along with comedian Kabila) too. He showed his acting, dancing and singing talent effectively. Then all the villains, other side actors and definitely child actress Puja as little Tanisha acted very well.

Then although any twist is rarely found in plot, boredom was never felt watching about two and half hours.The soundtracks were cool to listen, cinematography was eye-soothing also. The movie is breaking box office records in Bangladesh for its widely acceptance among audience, technical brilliance, superb action and funny sequences .The director Iftakar Chowdhury and his whole team really did brilliant and praise- worthy job. So watch it to get flavor of a total package of pure entertainment!

Storyline

Hira (Shakib Khan) is a software engineer by profession and very candid at heart. He is smitten by Priya (Apu Biswas) and he falls in love with her. Salma Khan (Nothun), Priya's Sister and a local rowdy, comes to learn about Hira, and wishes to kill him. Salma Khan puts her men on Hira's trail and arrives at a place where they plan to kill him, but things don't go as planned. Salma Khan witnesses the killing of a senior police official by Hira, only to return home in complete shock and fear. Puzzled at the sight of the murder, Salma Khan sends her entourage to investigate about Hira. Meanwhile, a CBI officer (Shiba Shanu) comes barging into Salma Khan's residence and takes her into custody, where she is told that Hira is wanted for the murder of several rowdies much to the astonishment of everybody. Who is Hira and what prompted him to kill? This forms the rest of the story.

Well, the highest paid male actor of Bangladesh is now putting is money on risk . Unlike his competitor (AJ) , he took professional crew to make a well made film. Hero The Superstar is all about the Hero himself, Shakib khan. He did both characteristics convincingly. He is fun to watch as a loverboy, also good as the revenge-taker.

The story is simple as most other Bangla movie Apu Bishwas and Boby , both are nice as Eye-Candy Songs are not very catchy.

Misha sawdagor is very cool as a villain as always.

The film is very much identical to some SOUTH Indian movies So my educated smart Bangladeshi friends, if you think Shakib Khan's films are "Rickshawala der jonno" then you are wrong. He can be fun for all level of people ! Happy watching

I had read Samaresh Majumdar's novel Buno Haansh before watching the movie, so i had expectations from it, but i was a bit hesitant as i did not trust Dev's dialog delivery and acting, but i am happy to say he has pulled off a difficult role brilliantly, he was not perfect but was much much better than his previous movies and has acted really well in this one looking innocent and confused as Amol, the main character. It will surely be one of the highlights of his career and he has the potential. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury has made a detailed movie with a soul, keeping the thrill elements intact. All the other characters are perfectly cast but Sudipta Chakraborty's act is the standout. The background score and music by Shantanu Moitra are great as always. Buno Haansh and Dev's act is surely one of the best this year.

Bachchan is one of those myriad mindless entertainers that don't bore you, but don't tax your brain either. All you need is a good pair of eyes and average ears to watch Bacchu -- the son of a washerman ( Supriyo Dutta) -- adopt a screen name and surname of his icon, Amitabh Bachchan, win the heart of a retired army officer's ( Kharaj Mukherjee) educated daughter, Priya ( Aindrita Ray) by 'posing' as a doctor of a reputed hospital chain, and play hide and seek with the biggest underworld kingpin in Kolkata.

Though the dialogues are laced with humour and the action, superhuman, there seems to be Jeet all over. There's hardly anyone else on the screen except him, his astrologer friend (KanchanMullick) and the bungling villain, MukulDev. The heroines - Priya and Trisha (PayelSarkar) - seem to be around just to dance to JeetGanguly's peppy numbers or to just add tarka to an already masala-heavy storyline.

Continuity, too, is thrown to the winds every now and then. For instance, there is this opening scene in which Kanchan is accosted by some goons in front of a cinema hall. Cut to a dimly-lit warehouse filled with cut-outs of AmitabhBachchan in his various on-screen avatars, where the same goons are thrashed by Vijay. How the goons manage to teleport themselves to the warehouse is something pretty baffling if you think about it. But then again, who's asking you to think? Shake your head in disbelief, clap and whistle every time a goon takes off like a balloon when Vijay lands a punch, munch popcorn, but do not think. You are not meant to. The song and dance sequences, as expected, are visualized on foreign soil by the semi-educated dhobi's son. No, don't think. It happens. In fact, even the accompanying dancers are foreigners. Why, one song even shows Jeet riding a segway with the rental company's name printed clearly on the vehicle! At least some care should be taken to avoid such glaring goof ups!

Then again, imagine a retired army officer's daughter riding around in a premium luxury SUV! Wouldn't even a mid-segment sedan been more believable? Anyway, since none of the character portraits are clear, except that of the hero and the villain, we have to assume that the said army officer comes from a very wealthy family. Acting-wise, there is nothing much to complain, as except the characters mentioned above, the others don't get enough screen time to make a mark. Payel, however, is good as the kingpin's wife and so is Asish Vidyarthi as the clichéd corrupt police commissioner Dibakar Saha.

Overall, Bachchan is film you can watch if you like going brain-dead for a couple of hours after a hectic day. It's an entertainer through and through.
